There
are some factors that you should consider:
There are a few things that you should
consider in terms of practicing this job.
Experience:
The first
consideration is an international experience. Do you like to travel? Do you
speak a foreign language/are you interested in foreign cultures? Keeping up to
date on current affairs around the world is extremely helpful. As well as being
open-minded to practices and cultures from that are different from yours.
There is the role
of attorneys in the United States versus in other countries attorneys’ position
and the law in the United States versus your clients’ home country. What are
their cultural perceptions of attorneys? How do they view American legal
ethics? How do they view corruption in some other country’s lawyers are
conduits for bribery? So it's helpful to educate your clients on your role as
an American attorney helping them.
Relationship:
It’s beneficial to
maintain your relationships with your colleagues and other practice areas.
Because immigration law often affects other practice areas, and other practice
areas affect us. It’s beneficial if we have good collegial relationships.
Family law, criminal law, tax law, business law, employment law, intellectual
property law are all practice areas that we deal with on an almost daily basis.
Timing:
Time is a factor in
everything you do in immigration law. You have to have patience. Because most
immigration law cases are discretionary, which means the government doesn't
have to have a fixed timeline for processing your claim. Deadlines, however,
are hard and fast. So you have to be able to meet your deadlines. Long term
planning is crucial for your clients and your practice. It’s helpful to know
what they're going to be doing in 10 years or 20 years. Because immigration can
just drag on for so long, and the priority dates can get extended.
Place:
In terms of your
practice, you have to be able to plan where you're going to be .it's not great
if you've moved between offices every six months. That’s going to be hard
.because every time you move. You have to notify the immigration of your new
address separately for each case.
Conclusion:
Immigration
law can break your heart. But if you do it correctly, you can change
people's lives for the better. I hope this article will be helpful enough to
make yourself prepared for immigration job practicing. See you in the next
article. Bye-bye.
